About This Quote

In the 19th century, a mere five percent of the American population owned most of the land. In 1810, with the industrial revolution under way, most workers were still employed in agriculture. In the years before the industrial revolution, people believed that true wealth came from land and estates. However, as industrialization and capitalism began to take hold, people began to believe that true wealth was derived from their work and not their land or estate. Today we live in a very different time than that of 1810. Today we live in a time where the majority of us do not own land and instead own capital such as money and stocks.

We also know more than at any other point in history about how to make our economy grow. The fundamental error we make today is believing that those who work harder or longer deserve more than those who work less or less hard. We must be careful what we let our hearts believe in.
